Introduction to IGIFL and IFLPR
The Internet Guide to International Fisheries Law has
been running for over 5 years and is widely recognized as one of the
leading resources in the field. It is used extensively by professionals,
academics, students, consultants, national and international officials
and NGOs from a wide range of disciplines. It has a core “readership” of
more than 5,000 users and receives several million hits per year.
In 2005, OceanLaw
launched a new version of the website. The new site is based closely on
the previous version but has been substantially re-developed and
re-designed. At the same time as launching the website, OceanLaw also
launched a new peer-reviewed journal International Fisheries Law and
Policy Review. An exciting and important new resource, the journal
combines academic and practice-oriented research with a strong emphasis
on current developments. The journal is available in print or on-line,
via the IGIFL website.
NB: The
new website has moved to a new location (separate from the OceanLaw
website) and is accessible at:
www.intfish.net.
Extended
free access and new member services
As with
previous versions, the vast majority of IGIFL remains free to use.
Currently, the website contains over 3500 pages, more than 90% of which
are freely available. However, over the past few years OceanLaw has also
been developing an extended members area of the website. This area
contains additional resources, including NewsLink – a weekly
media reporting service; various updating tools – including treaty
ratification updates, summaries of new cases and documents; Monitor
– a survey of current developments in international organizations; and
access to the new journal – International Fisheries Law and Policy
Review.
