 Date 1 July 1999

 Summary Summary

Abstract

As a follow-up to the Saiga No. 1 case, Saint Vincent and Grenadines filed an application for compensation in relation to a number of alleged contraventions of international law by Guinea arising out of the incident. In particular, Saint Vincent claimed that Guinea had violated its rights by arresting and illegal detaining its crew and had used excessive force in carrying out the arrest. The Tribunal upheld the main parts of the claim and awarded compensation of US$ 2,123,357 with interest.
