The "Grand Prince"
Belize v France

 Short title Grand Prince case
 Parties Belize
v
France
Forum International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea
 Date 20 April 2001
 Reported www.itlos.org
 Summary Summary

Abstract

The “Grand Prince” was the third case before ITLOS arising from French arrests of vessels fishing Patagonian toothfish in French waters around the Kerguelen and Crozet islands. As with two of the previous cases, it concerned an application for prompt release. In contrast to the previous decisions, however, ITLOS on this occasion determined that it had no jurisdiction to hear the dispute on the basis that at the time of the application the "Grand Prince" was not a vessel registered in Belize.
