The Volga case
Russian Federation v Australia

 Short title Volga case
 Parties Russian Federation
v
Australia
 Forum ITLOS
 Date 23 December 2002
 Reported www.itlos.org
 Summary Summary

Abstract

The Volga case is the latest in the series of prompt release cases before the Tribunal. Of particular interest in this case was the inclusion of non-monetary conditions by Australia in the bond for release of the Volga and potential questions concerning the validity of the arrest, which occurred after hot pursuit. The tribunal rejected the possibility of including non-monetary conditions but avoided the issue of hot pursuit.
