Report

Perspectives
on Whaling
Two short articles presenting the different sides of the whaling
argument, in advance of the Annual Meeting. In the first
article, Wilbur Dovey puts forward the anti-whaling argument, including
discussion of the Australia/New Zealand South Pacific sanctuary proposal. The
second article, by Rune Frøvik
, presents social, political and other arguments in favour of
whaling.

Inter-sessional meeting: major differences remain
Report by Chris Hedley of the February meeting of the RMS working group
in Monaco. The main
issues that confronted the meeting are discussed, the positions of the main players
are considered and the outcomes of the meetings are analyzed.
Exports
of Norwegian minke whale products
The Norwegian
Government decided in January to allow exports of minke whale exports. This move
has been criticized by environmental groups, while Norway argues their decision
is in conformity with international law. IntFish Bulletin presents both
views in two brief articles by Sue Fisher, of the Whale and Dolphin
Conservation Society and Dag Erling Stai, of the Norwegian Ministry of
Foreign Affairs.
